Extruder Shafts

New and replacement screw shafts up to 800 mm finished diameter — manufactured and refurbished

Extruder Shafts

We manufacture new and replacement shafts for every make and model of single-screw and twin-screw extruder, in current production and obsolete platforms alike. Each shaft is produced from forged alloy or nitriding steel, heat treated for the torque and fatigue duty of the machine, and released against a documented inspection plan — with the manufacturing schedule planned around your outage window.

What We Supply

  • New shaft manufacture — complete production comprising material, forging, heat treatment, machining, surface engineering, inspection and documentation; finished diameters to 800 mm.

  • Direct replacement — a dimensionally interchangeable shaft manufactured to the original design intent and supplied ready for installation.

  • Upgraded replacement — revised material, heat treatment, fillet geometry, spline contact, corrosion resistance or localized wear protection, developed around the documented failure mechanism and verified for interchangeability.

  • Splined and keyed shafts — single-piece and sectional, with spline fits matched to your existing element stock, in pairs for twin-screw machines.

  • Matched component supply — shafts, sleeves, screw elements, spacers, coupling features, seal surfaces and related drive-train components supplied as a single engineered package.

Extruder Platform Coverage

We manufacture and supply new and replacement shafts for all extruder platforms in service today, including — but not limited to — the machines below.

Manufacturer Extruder models and families
JSW — The Japan Steel Works CMP251, CMP274, CMP308, CMP335, CMP362, CMP387, CMP443; CIM360, CIM400, CIM460, CIM510, CIM560
Kobelco LCM, KTX and TSR families; LCM-H, LCM-EX, LCM-G, Hyper KTX, NEX-T, Mixtrumat and NCM legacy families
Coperion ZSK MEGAcompounder family, including ZSK 380 and ZSK 420
ENTEK HT 162
Farrel Pomini FCM and FMP systems, including FMP100
KraussMaffei KE, ZE-PC and ZE BluePower families
Leistritz ZSE 260 MAXX
All other makes Single-screw, co-rotating and counter-rotating twin-screw extruders of any manufacturer, model or age

Platforms not listed are equally within scope, including obsolete and out-of-production equipment reproduced by reverse engineering. The extruder manufacturer and model are sufficient to open a project.

JSW Extruder Platforms

Our extruder program is built around JSW equipment. We hold established manufacturing experience across the CMP and CIM platforms: shaft geometry, spline and coupling systems, element seats, material specifications and the service-limiting mechanisms characteristic of these machines.

The following components are supplied for the JSW CMP251, CMP274, CMP308, CMP335, CMP362, CMP387 and CMP443, and for the CIM360, CIM400, CIM460, CIM510 and CIM560:

Component Supply
Screw shafts (pair) New manufacture and refurbishment
Sectional shafts and shaft extensions New manufacture
Shaft sleeves, spacers and tip nuts New manufacture and replacement
Spline and coupling features New manufacture and refurbishment
Journals and seal surfaces New manufacture and restoration

Shafts are supplied individually, as a matched pair, or within a wider extruder and pelletizer package covering screws and screw elements, barrels, die plates, pelletizer knives, mechanical seals, couplings and bearing bushes — including Nordson BKG Type AH D drive and rotor parts — with interface dimensions coordinated across the assembly.

Materials

Application Materials and treatment
Shaft body Forged quenched-and-tempered alloy steels (34CrNiMo6 / 4340, 42CrMo4 / 4140) and nitriding steels (31CrMoV9), heat treated to the torque and fatigue duty
Splines and element seats Induction or case hardened, or nitrided, to original hardness and case depth
Journals and seal surfaces Hardened, hardfaced or coated for wear and corrosion resistance
Corrosive service Corrosion-resistant grades and localized overlays where the compound demands it

Material and treatment are selected to the documented duty and failure mechanism, and upgraded where the original was under-specified.

Refurbishment

Where inspection confirms the core material remains serviceable, a shaft is restored to original geometry and returned to service at a fraction of the cost of a new pair.

  1. Incoming inspection — straightness and run-out, journal and seal surface condition, spline tooth thickness and wear, keyway and element seat fit, thread and coupling feature condition; hardness check and crack detection.
  2. Condition report — measured wear against the service limit, remaining life and a clear recommendation: refurbish, replace or run on.
  3. Cleaning — polymer removal and cleaning of splines, seats and threads.
  4. Rebuild — straightness correction and stress relief; journal restoration by weld overlay, plating or thermal spray; spline and keyway recovery; localized build-up of worn seats.
  5. Surface re-treatment and finish grinding — re-nitriding, re-hardening or coating as required, followed by finish grinding to original size and finish.
  6. Final inspection and matching — dimensional, run-out and hardness verification, and trial assembly with the mating elements and coupling before shipment.

Reverse Engineering

We hold the technical information needed to produce shafts for the platforms above. Where a shaft is obsolete, undocumented or from an out-of-production machine, we reverse engineer it from the worn shaft: overall geometry, spline data, element seat and keyway dimensions, journal and seal surface sizes, fillet radii, coupling interface, material and hardness. The resulting manufacturing drawing package becomes the permanent record for repeat supply.

Quality

Every shaft is delivered with a complete inspection and material dossier: mill certificates, heat treatment and hardness records, dimensional and run-out inspection reports, spline gauging, crack detection records and a trial assembly check with the mating parts. Manufacturing is carried out at ISO 9001 certified facilities.
