UNEW Industries manufactures, repairs and services the steam path, rotor and valve components of steam turbines — utility units in power plants, and the industrial and mechanical-drive units that run pumps, compressors and generators in refineries, petrochemical plants and process industries. We supply the parts a turbine consumes over its life, refurbish the parts and rotors that come out, and run the outages in which they are exchanged.
Our parts are manufactured to aviation standards and meet or exceed OEM specification. Steam turbine work is delivered by the same organization, under the same procedures and documentation, as our gas turbine long-term service agreements.
| Line | Scope |
|---|---|
| Parts supply | Capital parts, consumables and operational spares — new manufacture from our own technical data, delivered with full documentation. |
| Repair and refurbishment | Rotors, blading, diaphragms, seals and valve internals of any origin, restored to design dimensions and returned balanced and documented. |
| Maintenance and outage services | Minor and major inspections; field engineering; controls and governing; alignment and vibration; long-term service agreements. |

| Valve internals | Stop, control, reheat and intercept valve stems, seats, discs, plugs, bushings and strainers |
| Bearings | Journal and thrust bearings, tilting pads, bearing liners |
Parts are supplied serialized, under UNEW part numbers cross-referenced to the OEM part number, and delivered with certificate of conformance, material certificate, dimensional record, NDE record and, for blades, the frequency and moment-weight record. We maintain a minimum of one spare set in inventory for every model we support.
Every inspection consumes a defined kit of parts. We supply complete inspection kits or individual items: casing and flange gaskets, gland packing rings, seal strips, high-temperature studs, nuts and bolting, shims and spacers, lock plates and tab washers, oil seals, insulation and lagging.
The parts that keep the unit running between inspections: governor and trip hydraulics, servo valves, speed probes and LVDTs, vibration and axial-displacement probes, thermocouples and RTDs, lube and control oil filters, turning-gear components, and control system cards and I/O modules.
We hold the technical data for every part we supply. Parts not yet in our library are reverse engineered from a used sample (see Reverse Engineering below). From the first order onward the part is a UNEW product with a UNEW part number, and repeat orders are manufactured to the same data.
Because the data is ours, we manufacture only what is required — the damaged row, or the damaged blades within a row — rather than obliging operators to buy a complete stage.
| Component | Base material | Surface treatment |
|---|---|---|
| Rotating blades / buckets | AISI 403 / 410, X20Cr13, X22CrMoV12-1, 17-4PH; titanium alloys for last-stage blades | Stellite erosion shields (brazed or laser clad), boride and chrome diffusion, HVOF erosion coatings |
| Shrouds, retaining strips, lock wire | Type 403 / 410 / 321 stainless steel to match the blade row and steam temperature | As required |
| Wheels, discs, shafts | AISI 4340, CrMoV and NiCrMoV forgings | Journal and seal-area restoration by weld build-up or chrome |
| Diaphragms, nozzle blocks | 12% chromium and carbon-steel fabrications, cast or welded | Hardfacing of seal lands |
| Seals and glands | 12% chromium steel, nickel alloys, leaded bronze | — |
| Valve internals | 12% chromium and CrMoV steels | Stellite hardfacing, nitriding |
Reverse engineering is how we bring a new part into production — for any steam turbine make and model, whether or not it appears in the fleet list above. We work from a used part: a blade, shroud, seal or valve internal removed at an inspection is all we need. The result is a complete technical package held by UNEW Industries — drawings, material specification, surface treatment, process routing and inspection plan — from which the part is manufactured as a UNEW product.
| Step | What we do |
|---|---|
| 1. Sample | A used part is collected from the customer's store or from the parts removed at an outage; the sample is returned after engineering |
| 2. Dimensional capture | 3D optical scanning and CMM measurement of the complete part — airfoil, root or dovetail, tip, tenons and sealing features; measured wear and erosion are corrected back to the design condition |
| 3. Material analysis | Chemical composition, hardness, microstructure and heat-treatment condition of the base material; identification of erosion shields, hardfacing and diffusion treatments |
| 4. Engineering | Manufacturing drawings, material and surface-treatment specifications, forging or bar-stock definition, machining and process routing, inspection plan and acceptance criteria; for blades, the natural-frequency verification basis against the unit's speed range |
| 5. First article | Manufacture and full first-article inspection against the engineered data; frequency testing and moment weighing of blades |
| 6. Release | UNEW part number assigned; the part enters our library and is manufactured to the same data on every repeat order |
Reverse engineering is also what makes partial replacement possible. Once we hold the exact geometry, we manufacture the damaged blades of a row to fit the shroud and wheel already on the rotor, or a complete new stage set that fits the existing wheel — whichever the condition of the rotor calls for.
We refurbish steam turbine rotors, blading, diaphragms, seals and valve internals of any origin — OEM or non-OEM. The objective is set at receipt: return the rotor for further service intervals at design dimensions, balanced and documented.
Every rotor or component set begins with a documented incoming inspection: visual, dimensional and runout survey, magnetic particle and fluorescent penetrant examination, ultrasonic examination of wheels and shaft, blade and shroud condition row by row, and metallurgical sectioning of a coupon where the condition of the base material is in question. The report classifies each part as light, medium or heavy repair, with every classification anchored to measured values, and identifies before any work begins the parts to be replaced new.
| Step | Operations |
|---|---|
| 1. Receipt and inspection | Serial record, incoming inspection report, repair or replace decision per row and per part |
| 2. Strip and clean | De-blading of affected rows, removal of shrouds and locking hardware, blast cleaning, removal of deposits and scale |
| 3. Repair | Wheel and dovetail repair, journal and seal-area weld build-up and machining, shaft straightening, re-blading with new or refurbished blades, shroud and tenon work, diaphragm repair, seal replacement, valve seat lapping and hardfacing |
| 4. Heat treatment | Stress relief and post-weld heat treatment where required |
| 5. Balancing | Low-speed and high-speed dynamic balancing, overspeed test to the unit's trip speed |
| 6. Final inspection and release | Dimensional and NDE inspection, runout record, blade frequency verification, serialized final refurbishment report and certificate of conformance |
Each rotor or component set is returned with a final refurbishment report — per-part serial record, repair level, measurements, balancing and overspeed record — and a refurbishment acceptance letter for the complete scope.
The processes we apply to steam turbine parts are the processes of our aviation workshop: laser cladding, HVOF coating, diffusion treatments, 5-axis machining and calibrated frequency and moment-weight benches. Wear parts replaced during repair are replaced with higher-grade material than the original. The result is a part that runs longer than it did when new.

Stage replacement on built-up rotors: complete new blade rows with tip covers, retaining strips and locking hardware manufactured from reverse-engineered samples, fitted, high-speed balanced and overspeed tested.
Delivered under the same long-term service agreement framework as our gas turbine fleets in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, North Africa and South America.
UNEW Industries operates an ISO 9001 quality management system. Steam turbine parts are manufactured, repaired and treated to aviation standards, and every part is traceable by serial number from raw material to delivery. Each delivery carries a certificate of conformance, material certificate, dimensional record, NDE record and, for blades, the frequency and moment-weight record.
